3D Model Prep
for Print

Structured sessions covering what actually goes wrong between a digital model and a finished print — and how to fix it before it costs material.

Session structure

Each session addresses one stage of the preparation pipeline. Topics build on each other but can be taken independently.

Format
  • Mesh diagnostics — identifying non-manifold geometry, holes, and inverted normals using Meshmixer and PrusaSlicer's analysis tools.
  • Wall thickness review — minimum viable walls per material, where thin geometry collapses during slicing versus during print.
  • Support strategy — manual support placement logic, when auto-supports fail, and how part orientation changes removal difficulty.
  • Tolerance and fit — clearance values for snap-fit joints, threaded inserts, and press-fit components across FDM and resin.
  • File export and STL/3MF settings — triangle density, unit scaling, and why some slicers interpret the same file differently.
Working material included

Each module includes a reference file set — broken models to diagnose, repaired versions to compare, and slicer project files with annotated settings. No generic exercises.

Upcoming sessions

What's scheduled

Sessions run on a rolling basis. Each slot is individual — no group cohorts. Scheduling adjusts around your timezone and current project stage.

Module 1
Mesh diagnostics

Reading error reports from Netfabb and Meshmixer side by side. Understanding which errors actually affect print outcome and which are cosmetic.

Module 3
Support placement

Hands-on session using a participant's own model. Support trees, contact point density, and how to plan removal before the print starts.

Module 5
Tolerances in practice

Reviewing real failed assemblies — where the gap was wrong, what the slicer did to the geometry, and how to iterate without wasting filament.
